Privacy
What this site records
No cookies, no accounts, no advertising or analytics company. The site counts its own visits with a small script I wrote, and this page lists everything it keeps.
When you open a page
One line is saved with:
- the time and the address of the page;
- the page you came from, if your browser says so, without anything after a
?; - what your browser reports about itself: its name, version and operating system;
- a visitor number that only tells two visits on the same day apart.
Your IP address is not saved. The visitor number is worked out from it, mixed with a random value that is thrown away and replaced every day. Once the day is over the number cannot be turned back into an address, and yesterday's number has nothing to do with today's.
If your browser sends "Do Not Track" or Global Privacy Control, the page is not counted at all. You can also switch counting off for this browser. That saves one setting in the browser's own storage so the choice sticks, and this link removes it.
When you click through to the store
A click on a link to the Unity Asset Store, or on one of the short
creativespore.com/go/... links I post elsewhere, is saved the same way, with
which link it was. It tells me which page or post sends people to the store. Do Not Track
and Global Privacy Control switch this off too. The switch above does not reach the short
links, because they are not pages of this site that could read it.
The "Get it on the Unity Asset Store" buttons are affiliate links. They pass through
Unity's affiliate partner (Partnerize, at prf.hn) on the way to the store, and
that company and Unity set their own cookies once you are there. Each button says so
next to it.
When you answer "Was this page useful?"
The manuals ask this at the bottom of each page. Your answer and anything you type are saved with the page and the same visitor number. No name, no email. Please keep personal details out of that box, because I read it as written.
What comes from other companies
- The site is hosted by Hostinger. Like any web server, theirs keeps access logs that include IP addresses. I can see about a week of them and use them only to look into a problem.
- Videos are YouTube's. A page shows a picture until you press play, and only then is anything loaded from YouTube (its no-cookie player).
- Links to Discord, YouTube, X, itch.io and the Asset Store take you to those sites, which have their own rules.
If you write to me
An email to support@creativespore.com stays in my inbox so I can answer and follow up. I don't add you to any list.
The form on the contact page does the same thing: it turns what you type into an email to that inbox. The site keeps no copy of your address or your message, only a line saying that a message was sent, with the visitor number described above.
Asking about your data
Visit lines can't be tied to a person, so there is nothing of yours I could look up in them. If you left a comment in a manual and want it removed, email me the page and the day and I'll delete it.
