AI Skills¶
Super Tilemap Editor ships instruction files for AI coding agents. If you work with Claude Code, Cursor, Unity AI or a similar tool, pointing it at these files gets it building your levels with this asset instead of reaching for Unity's own Tilemap or writing a tile system from scratch.
What they are¶
An AI Skill is a plain markdown file, SKILL.md, written for an agent rather than for you. Each
one covers a job you would ask for in a sentence. It gives the exact menu paths, inspector fields,
method signatures and defaults, all checked against the asset's code.
They ship inside the package at:
Five skills ship, each in its own folder:
| Skill | What it covers |
|---|---|
| super-tilemap-editor-setup-and-overview | The install check, a first tileset and tilemap from an atlas, the sample scenes, every menu entry, and which skill owns what. |
| super-tilemap-editor-tilesets | Creating a tileset from an atlas, slicing, the atlas windows, tile properties and tile colliders, and importing from Tiled and Pyxel Edit. |
| super-tilemap-editor-brushes | Autotiling brushes: which one fits your art, creating and filling one, brush groups, and custom brushes. |
| super-tilemap-editor-painting-and-colliders | Painting in the scene view, the tools and shortcuts, tilemap groups, sorting and materials, and tilemap colliders. |
| super-tilemap-editor-scripting | Reading and writing tiles from C#, procedural maps, rebuilding meshes and colliders, grid and world positions, tile parameters, and undoable editor tools. |
Pointing your agent at them¶
Agents do not find the folder on their own. It sits under Assets/, which no tool scans by
default, so tell yours where to look. You do this once per project.
Claude Code¶
Claude Code reads project skills from .claude/skills/. Copy the five folders there, or link
them so a package update keeps them current:
# From the project root, on Windows with Developer Mode on
mklink /D ".claude\skills\super-tilemap-editor-setup-and-overview" "Assets\CreativeSpore\SuperTilemapEditor\AI\Skills\super-tilemap-editor-setup-and-overview"
Repeat for the other four, or copy the folders if you would rather not use links.
Any other agent¶
Most tools accept a folder of instructions, or a line in the project instructions file they read at the start of a session. Add something like this:
Super Tilemap Editor ships AI skills at
Assets/CreativeSpore/SuperTilemapEditor/AI/Skills/. Read the relevant SKILL.md
before creating tilesets, painting tilemaps or writing code that sets tiles.
Check it took
Ask your agent "how do I make a tilemap in this project?" before trusting it with real work.
A good answer names GameObject > Super Tilemap Editor > Tilemap and a tileset. If it
starts adding a Grid and a Tilemap component, it is not reading the skills.
What the skills will not let an agent do¶
Each skill ends with a Boundaries section. Working around those limits breaks your maps rather than extending them, so an agent following the skills will refuse to:
- Add Unity's
Tilemap,GridorTilemapRendererto a Super Tilemap Editor tilemap, or mix the two systems on one map. - Edit the hidden chunk objects under a tilemap. Tiles live there and are managed by the tilemap.
- Renumber brushes. Every painted cell in your scenes stores its brush by number.
- Save generated tilesets, brushes or prefabs inside
Assets/CreativeSpore/, where the next update of the asset would overwrite them.
If your agent proposes one of these, it has either not read the skills or decided to override them. Either way, stop it and ask why.
Keeping them accurate¶
Each skill records the asset version it was checked against and a last-verified date in its
front matter. They are updated with the code, so the skills in a release describe that release.
They describe this asset only. Your levels, tile art and game code are yours, and no skill assumes anything about them.
Getting help¶
If an agent following a skill produces something wrong, please tell us. It usually means an instruction is unclear, not that the agent misbehaved. Discord is the fastest route and support@creativespore.com works too. Both are on the Help & Support page.
